Co-Owner, President

Philip is responsible for overall operations of the company. He oversees the daily operations of the service, installation, environmental and parts departments to make sure that customer needs are being met. He works to maintain relationships with customers and regulatory agencies. He is a Board Member of the Little Rock Executive Association,  Baptist Hospital Board Member, Board Member and Membership Chair for the Young Presidents Association, UAMS Consortium Advisory Board Member, Leadership Greater Little Rock Class XXVI, President of Capitol 10-Group for Petroleum Equipment Institute, Passed the AR, LA, and TN Board for Licensing Contractors Examination and has his Real Estate License on hold at Colliers International. Grace graduated from the University of Arkansas with a business degree in Marketing. He and his wife Melanie have twins, Anna and Garrett.

Michael P. Shelby

Michael’s primary responsibilities are geared towards sales and marketing.  In addition to building relationships with current clients and prospects, he also works closely with all Soco department heads to make sure that each project in the pipeline stays on time and in budget, ultimately ensuring that the customer is satisfied with the finished product.  Since purchasing SOCO, Michael has served on numerous Arkansas Oil Marketers Boards; he is currently on The Environmental Committee, is the PAC treasurer, and has spent three years on the Petroleum Equipment Institute’s Education Committee. Michael is also very proud to serve on the Foundation Board for Arkansas Children’s Hospital.   Having graduated from the University of Arkansas with a business degree in Marketing, Michael resides in Little Rock with his wife Aimee and three sons Porter, Jack and Matthew.

Lee Carter

CFO

Lee has 38 years experience in the petroleum marketing and petroleum equipment industries. In addition to his financial responsibilities as CFO of The Southern Company, Lee also serves as our IT director. He is a graduate of the University of Arkansas with degrees in Industrial Management and Finance and Banking, and worked for Exxon Corp. in various capacities before becoming an owner of Radford Equipment Company, which he sold in 2001. He is married to Nancy Sherman and is a proud grandfather to first grader, Brooklyn.

Larry Duke

Larry Duke

Service Manager

Larry served in the United States Marine Corps for 21 years before accepting the position as the service manager.  He has been the Service Manager for the Southern Company since October 2011.

Oriana Alba Thompson

Oriana Alba Thompson

Oriana Thompson currently serves as the Environmental Department Manager for SoCo, providing solutions to clients’ environmental needs. Current day-to-day responsibilities include project oversight, report review, client management, and staff supervision. She is responsible for ensuring consistency, quality, and on-time delivery of due services. Ms. Thompson has over 10 years of experience implementing ASTM Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, Comprehensive Environmental Assessments, Remedial Action, and UST fuel system removals.  She graduated with a master’s degree in Soil Science from the University of Arkansas.

Steve Holland

Steve Holland

Director of Purchasing

Steve’s primary duty is to order equipment and parts to meet the needs of our customers, service and installation departments. Steve also backs up our sales department when needed both for inside and outside sales calls. He works with the service department and installation department to coordinate and schedule delivers needed for our jobs. He also works with vendors to assure the best possible products and prices for our customers. Steve graduated from UALR and started with The Southern Co of NLR way back in 1974 in the parts department. He has had various roles at other petroleum equipment companies over the years and brings a wealth of knowledge to our company.  He is on the Tradeshow and Convention committee of the Arkansas Oil Marketers Association.

Skylar Long

Skylar joined the US Airforce in June of 2001 as an aircraft refueler and served 7 years active duty, then spent 4 years in the Arkansas Air National Guard. Along with refueling aircraft, he worked in petroleum bulk storage, hydrant fueling systems, accounting and IT. Skylar came to The Southern Co in 2007 as a service tech, and now serves as the Service Manager for the Fort Smith branch. He and his wife Casey  got married the day after high school graduation in 2001 and have two daughters, Faith and Brooke.

Dustin Chumley

Dustin Chumley

Construction Manager

Dustin was hired in 2013 as a Project Manager. He was promoted in January of 2017 to Head of Construction.  His duties include, managing all aspects of personnel, construction, and new installation projects for the Southern Company. He is also responsible for the day to day operations of the Installation Department.  Dustin has over 11 years, experience in commercial construction, with the last 5 years in the Petroleum Equipment Industry.  He has a degrees in Applied Science, and Surveying Technology from UACCM.  Dustin lives in Maumelle with his wife SammyJo and daughter Logan.

Mark Havlik

Fort Smith Branch Manager

Mark began his career in the petroleum industry in 1994, working in a warehouse for one of Oklahoma’s largest equipment houses. Learning the business inside and out, he worked from warehouse to counter sales then to construction/service and eventually taking a sales position within the company. In 2005, Mark took a job as a sales rep for multiple petroleum and automotive equipment manufactures covering Oklahoma and Arkansas before taking on the role of Northwest Arkansas branch manager of The Southern Company. He lives in Fort Smith with his wife, Karen, and has two daughters, Layne and Shay.
